Want to know how to look like you spent a lot more than you did? Here are a few things I do when I want to go from causal chic to glamorous.

• Mix in one pricer item. I normally go for a purse or shoes but sometimes a silk scraf, hat or belt will do the trick.
• Pick prints careful. Solids are easier to work with because expensive garments normally match prints up at the seams. Therefore, you are better off picking prints only if you can cover up any discontinuations.
• Invest in a few slips, it will make it easier when shopping for the next bullet point.
• Fabric is very important as it effect how an item hangs and flows with movement. This is a difficult one to accomplish with a budget but there are few things to keep an eye out for:
  • Cheap clothing that is easy to see through when held up to a light, will be easy to see through when worn. Wear a slip.
  • If it's wrinkled on the hanger, it will wrinkle quickly on you. Always check label for ironing instructions!
  • Lined items are usually a better deal unless the lining is too thin. Be sure to check or wear a slip.
  • Fake leather should look at close to the real thing as possible and not feel plastic to the touch.
• Examine the seams. Buckling, loose threads, and non existant seam allowance can be a sign of a pontential disaster.
• Plastic boning can provide great structure to a bodice at a very affordable price but it has a tendency to shift and poke. This can be a dead giveaway, so always try before you buy.

Ultimately fashion is about expression, so have fun and don't go over your budget just to look "rich" 24/7. I have plenty of items that don't hit all these points I wear often ;).
